Weather Contingency Advice
Hosting an outdoor event in the UK? Here’s how to plan confidently, whatever the forecast.
Let’s be honest — we live in a country where a sunny morning can turn into a soggy afternoon with little warning. But that doesn’t mean you should shy away from planning an outdoor celebration. With the right tents, layout, and a few clever precautions, your event can go ahead in style — rain or shine.
Here’s how we help our clients prepare for unpredictable weather, and what you can do to keep guests comfortable and spirits high no matter what the clouds are up to.
1. All Our Tents Are Built for British Weather
Whether you’ve hired a marquee, stretch tent, yurt, or bell tent, you can rest assured: our structures are all waterproof, wind-resistant, and professionally secured.
-
Indian marquees can be fitted with optional side walls for added protection
-
Stretch tents can be pitched low and tight for a cosy, enclosed feel
-
Yurts offer solid wooden frames and great insulation
-
Bell tents keep guests warm and dry overnight, even if the rain sets in
2. Add Weather-Smart Extras
To boost comfort and keep guests happy in poor conditions, we can provide:
-
Matting or hard flooring to keep shoes dry and minimise mud
-
Side walls, awnings, and gutters for extra shelter and covered entrances
-
Heaters and fire bowls to warm up chilly evenings
-
Covered chillout tents or bell tents as extra dry spaces for guests
Let us know your date and location, and we’ll recommend the best setup based on seasonal conditions and your tent type.
3. Plan Your Layout with Flexibility in Mind
We’ll help you create a layout that works for sun, wind or rain:
-
Entrances positioned away from prevailing winds
-
Dining and seated areas placed in the most sheltered zones
-
Chillout or bar areas located under cover or nearby
-
Backup tents or walkways (e.g. Pergolas) to link zones or provide shade
A few smart choices at the planning stage can make all the difference.
4. Keep an Eye on the Forecast — and Stay in Touch
In the week leading up to your event, we’ll monitor the forecast and stay in close contact. If the weather turns, we’ll talk you through your options — from adapting the pitch of your stretch tent to adding walls, flooring, or extra cover.
Our team has worked through storms, heatwaves, and everything in between — and we’re always ready with a Plan B if needed.
5. Don’t Panic — Make It Part of the Story
Rain doesn’t have to ruin the day. Some of our most magical weddings and parties have taken place under grey skies and twinkling lights. Guests will remember the atmosphere, the thought you’ve put into their comfort, and the warmth of the celebration far more than a few raindrops.
With the right setup, British weather can be part of the charm — not a setback.
